The Republic of Macedonia has already signed free trade agreements, for payment of only 1% customs taxes with Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the EU and EFTA Countries. Negotiations for free trade agreements were held with Romania. Macedonia is making efforts for strengthening the legal system and, in this regard, the priority of the Republic of Macedonia is first to impose open country policy, with export oriented market economy, where private ownership, and liberalization of foreign trade and prices will be the essential attributes of country’s policy. As far as investments are concerned, the priority is given to framing the legal base for enabling favourable conditions to domestic and foreign investors. Macedonian Government has adopted the Programme for initiating foreign investments emphasizing direct foreign investments.
